If you live in Calgary, Alberta like me, you might have been feeling a little wee bit cold. I honestly don't remember it ever being -42 degrees celsius in Calgary and I have lived here all my life. While I generally bundle up very well already, I have found a need to change up my skin care slightly.
Previously, I shared my everyday skin-care routine. For this cold weather, I have added a serum to my skin care routine as an added layer of protection. Before I head out the door, I wash my face with a cleanser, apply toner, apply serum, and moisturizer with SPF. Makeup goes after all of this and my face is then covered with a big scarf. (You wouldn't recognize me on the street as you only see my eyes peeking out from my foggy glasses.)
I have used serums in the past from Kiehls and SKII but didn't commit to using them on a regular basis. The reasons/excuses were it was too oily (Kiehls) and made me break out; I didn't see immediate results (SKII). The price tag for the latter didn't help either. I would ask my friend from Hong Kong to get it for me from the duty free shop at the airport, every time she came back home for a visit. Not worth the money or hassle.
I thought I would give serums a try again when I learned of Rodan+Fields Active Hydration Serum. What drew me to this product were the words: ACTIVE HYDRATION. The serum is light weight with a light fragrance, and I get results in a very short amount of time. I am finding my pores to be smaller too. No lie. When your skin is hydrated, your pores don't look like golf ball dimples on your face. Ew.
Why add yet another thing to the routine you might ask? Quite simply, dryness leads to dull skin and breakouts when your skin is over-compensating due to dryness. Adding more moisturizer is not a solution because you don't want it to clog your pores given moisturizers are heavier in texture. I don't mind the extra step because I like taking care of my skin. If you don't have the time during the day before you leave the house, use your moisturizer during the day and add the serum to your night time routine. Your face will probably be screaming for some more hydration or moisture by then!
Best of luck with your skin care journey!
