Hi I’m Gabi- the owner of RED (Real Engaging Designs) Paper Boutique. RED is a local stationery company that celebrates happiness and human connection so that others feel valued and appreciated. I design and create greeting cards and stationery gifts that inspire motivation, humor and human closeness. I am a mom to two absolutely beautiful little ladies, Nola (6) and Lucy (4). My passions definitely have a strong focus around mental health. As a mental health nurse myself, I appreciate the importance of community and surrounding yourself with people that can lift you to be the best version of yourself.
WHAT IS YOUR BUSINESS AND WHAT LEAD YOU TO START IT?
I had the privilege of being invited into RED by my best-friend and fellow mental health nurse Maryrose years ago. Initially RED was heavily focused on wedding and event invitations. Over the course of life, it changed its direction more towards greeting cards and stationery gifts after we had the opportunity to exhibit at the National Stationery Show in New York in 2015.
WHO INSPIRES YOU?
Single moms and single parents!!! Recently I have experienced my own personal changes in my family structure and I can’t speak more highly about single parents. You are the super heroes of the world. It’s definitely not an easy task, yet they continue to survive and provide day in and day out for their families.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR TIPS TO MAINTAIN A WORK-LIFE BALANCE?
Don’t hesitate to ask for help. Often times as entrepreneurs, we get used to wearing all the hats running a company and then balancing being a parent simultaneously. I still remember the best advice I received from my amazing step-dad Harry. He told me “Gabi, always put in the best person for the job”. That involves creating a community of supporters that are willing to jump in and help when needed and not being afraid to ask. He also told me not to sweat the small stuff. The older I get, the more I realize how true this statement is.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER MOMS WANTING TO START A BUSINESS?
Dream Big. Don’t limit your dreams because of what other people think. As in the wise words of Rachel Hollis “Someone else’s opinion of you is none of your business”.
IF YOU HAD AN EXTRA HOUR TODAY, WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH IT?
Probably dive into my newest audible book from Rachel Hollis- Girl, Stop Apologizing.
